The Caldas da Rainha ceramics factory was established in 1884 by Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro and his younger brother in the city of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. The factory continues to operate today, with its ceramicists using original moulds and drawing upon centuries of expertise to create high-quality, humorous ceramics that mimic natural forms. The cabbage tableware, one of the factory’s most famous creations, was widely copied throughout the 20th century. The factory’s ceramics are known for their authenticity and are a continuation of the city’s longstanding pottery tradition.
